The veteran airport has had some extensions since its opening in 1967, among them emphasizes the beginning of Terminal 2 in January of 2007. This terminal expands the capacity of the airport with 20% and began with a provisional area for the processing of passengers until the opening of the New Terminal Area, expected during the first semester of 2011 (under construction since 2005) and will duplicate the present capacity of the airport.
