San Juan’s Bonfire in Alicante
Alicante has its Bonfire Festival from 20th to 24th of June welcoming the summer period. Thousands of tourists visit the city to enjoy this festivity declared has International Tourist Interest. On the night of the June 24 you can see the spectacular figures (Hogueras) burn.
Every afternoon at 2pm you can visit the Mascleta a pyrotechnic show in La Plaza de Luceros, it is totally recommend.
San Juan’s night celebrates the arrival of the summer. The night of the 23 of June it is a tradition to light bonfires on the beach and perform several rituals like jumping the bonfire 7 times, swimming and jumping the waves in the sea at midnight. You can enjoy the most magical night of the year on most of the beaches of the area like Postiguet (Alicante), Los Arenales del sol, Santa Pola, Guardamar…
The party ends with La Crema launching at midnight a big white palm tree from the castle of Santa Barbara, this launching indicates that the spectacular figures (Las Hogueras) can start to burn.
The week after the festivities, from June 25 to 29, you can visit the fireworks contest that will be held on Postiguet beach.
