Spain becomes the healthiest country in the world, according to the study of Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index in 2019. Spaniards enjoy a healthy lifestyle thanks to various factors such as the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and health services.
The Mediterranean diet provides great health benefits. The consumption of unprocessed, fresh and seasonal food helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, reduces obesity and improves brain activity.
Another factor to be highlighted is the high quality of the health system in Spain that counts with specialized doctors that provide preventive services to children, women and the elderly in order to reduce heart disease and cancer.

The Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index study analyses the factors that influence the quality of life of people in 169 different nations, such as eating habits, life expectancy, medical care, obesity, smoking, hygiene, the environment and the availability of drinking water. Spain is ranked first in the ranking followed by Italy, Iceland, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, Singapore, Norway and Israel, among others.
Currently, Spain has the longest life expectancy of the European Union with 82,9 years. The study predicts that in 2040 it will have the highest life expectancy with nearly 86 years, followed by Japan, Singapore and Switzerland.
