It has been an exciting and adrenaline-filled few days in Torrevieja! The XVI edition of the Euromarina Optimist has concluded, and it has been an unforgettable regatta that has left its mark on the memory of all participants and spectators. With more than 425 children registered, representing more than 20 countries, the competition became a melting pot of talent, friendship and sporting values.
The regatta was not only a competitive challenge, but also an opportunity to celebrate the diversity and camaraderie that characterise the sport. The young sailors, who came from all over the world, shared not only a passion for sailing, but also the opportunity to forge lasting friendships throughout this unique experience.
Despite the excitement and intensity of the competition, the great weather we enjoyed in Torrevieja added a special touch to the week. With temperatures reaching 25 degrees Celsius in this hot month of January, the city was the perfect setting to host this stunning regatta. However, the benevolent weather also presented its own challenges, as the lack of wind on some days tested the skills and patience of the participants. Even so, the perseverance of the sailors and the excitement of the final races made up for any obstacles.
The city of Torrevieja was the scene of social events that brought all the participants together. The Welcome Party, which took place at the start of the regatta, was a highlight. The children, accompanied by their teams and coaches, enjoyed a lively snack, entertainment and the presentation of the teams with their respective flags. This event created a festive atmosphere and also strengthened the bonds between the young sailors, fostering the spirit of camaraderie that characterises sailing.
The climax of the Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja took place yesterday with the solemn prize giving ceremony. The absolute podium reflected the outstanding participation of Catalonia, with two representatives of the CN Cambrils leading the classification. Iker Múgica was crowned champion, while Joan Domingo won the bronze medal. The silver medal went to Juan Lleonart from CN Balis. The expressions of joy and satisfaction on the faces of the winners and participants were an eloquent testimony to the dedication and effort invested in this competition.
