The Virgen del Carmen festivity is celebrated at 16th July since 1972 in Spain. This virgin is the patron saint of fishers and it’s know as the star of the sea. Fishermen and family pay tribute to the Virgin of Carmen in a maritime pilgrimage. They bring the virgin from the church to the port.

This festivity are very popular in Murcia. It was declared Festivity of Regional Interest in 1965. San Pedro del Pintar is a fishing village located between Mediterranean Sea and Menor Sea. Fishers, sailors and family adore the Virgin of Carmen. It’s the patron saint that guide and protect the sailors and fishers when they are in the sea.

The Virgin of Carmen is carried from San Pedro Apostol Church to Menor Sea. Decorated boats with devotes are waiting the patron saint in Lo Pagán.
The devotes celebrate a offer of carnations in the sea during the maritime pilgrimage. Also they dedicate a minute of silence in memory of the people that died at sea.

It’s celebrated a mass in the forecourt of the fish market when the maritime pilgrimage is finished. The Virgin of Carmen is carried in procession to the Carmen Church of Lo Pagan. Also is celebrated recreational and sports events organized by the Fishers Association.
